Reflections: Eyes That Kiss In The Corners
This book ‘clamo[u]r[s] for the right to opacity’ by not simply requesting a voice and your ear, but asking that you look - to see her clearly against a plain white background. The lyrical words and beautiful images use the eyes to make each character opaque - visible - undeniable. We shouldn’t be afraid of our differences and recent events only prove that there are still things we can do.
Switch better than a Nintendo Switch?
So many switches in the world: light switches, computer switches, network switches, and now code-switching! I’ve started reading a tiny bit on pidgin and creole languages... It’s made me realise so much about what code-switching actually means to me. P.S. Thanks for your code-switching contributions on Facebook!
Zipping into space and function!
As an architect, what is most important to me is the space and function of the building (how it is structured and how it is used). So, in many ways, whenever I think of how I have learnt languages, the heart of it lies in the environment I was immersed in and the way I use languages now.

I suppose being thrown into a majority English-speaking environment meant that I quickly dropped that. It came to the point where I completely rejected any notion of Chinese as a language of utility or value. (I really regret this now because it cut off years of language exposure…)
Words, words, words.
I may be an advocate of print books because I have an intense desire to fill a library that can match my ego, but they truly are irreplaceable for our children.

So where did it all begin? … I suppose you can call it envy. Every night, she’d snuggle up next to my husband and enjoy lovely long bedtime readings! All in English with my husband’s engaging, enthusiastic and animated reading!
